Immigrant Women Integration Program (IWIP)

Applications are now open for the September 2026 cohort of the program. Scroll below for more information.

The Immigrant Women Integration Program (IWIP) is a full-time training program for newcomer and immigrant women living in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas and Inner Suburbs. IWIP develops newcomer and immigrant women to become community leaders who are engaged in the development of their communities. This community leadership opportunity helps promote engagement, expand career/academic pathways, foster a sense of belonging, facilitate access to programs and services, and contribute to building community.  Skills enhanced within the program include self-confidence, advocacy, civic engagement, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills. Learning is a blend of virtual, in-person and independent learning which covers foundational knowledge-based courses, industry-based courses and student placement.

The overall goal of IWIP is to reduce the number of newcomer women who experience isolation. Its core strategy focuses on enhancing the capacity of groups of newcomer women, from different language and cultural backgrounds, so they can, in turn, engage with people from their respective communities (neighbours, friends, family members), helping them feel more connected and engaged.

The IWIP program was launched in 2002 as a classroom-based training program, combined with an extensive fieldwork component.  Due to the pandemic, we have successfully transitioned IWIP to a hybrid learning model. We are embracing the digital platforms in how we learn, engage, and build connections with one another and the greater community.
